Actress Brittany Murphy death was caused in part by “drug intoxication”, her autopsy has confirmed.

The Clueless star’s husband and mother both strenuously denied that drugs played any part in the 32-year-old’s death on 20 December.

The LA County Coroner has ruled Murphy’s death was accidental and caused by pneumonia, but that multiple-drug intoxication was a factor in the tragic star’s death.

And, according to celebrity website TMZ.com, sources involved in the autopsy have claimed that her death was “preventable”.

TMZ reported on its website that “LA County Coroner officials believe Brittany’s condition was ‘treatable’, but no one took her to the hospital in time. As for the multiple drugs found in her system… they were both prescription… and over-the-counter medications, including cough syrup.

“Our sources say the drugs ‘pushed her over the line’, but the underlying problems were the pneumonia and anemia.”

It added: “In other words, Brittany was really sick, didn’t get treatment and by self-medicating it pushed her over the line.”

Monjack said at the time that his wife had been taking the painkiller Vicoprofen and antidepressant Fluoxetine to deal with severe menstrual cramps, and insisted that many of the other meds found at their Hollywood Hills home were for his own use as he suffers from seizures.
