Will George Clooney break a leg in London?

Riding high on his trio of summer movies, and having recovered from a broken hand, George Clooney now wants to tread the West End boards.
The 48-year-old leading man revealed in an interview with UK Metro he is keen as mustard to appear in a London show. Clooney launched his acting career in a Chicago theatre before getting his break on the hit TV drama series ER.
“It would be swell [to do a show in the West End], but no one has actually offered me one.”
Actors taking to the stage are growing in number. In the US, Hugh Jackman and Katie Holmes are among them. On the West End, Nicole Kidman, Josh Hartnett and Christian Slater have led the way.
The comment prompted the LA Times to come up with a tongue-in-cheek list of possible roles for Clooney. It said he could play Bobby Gould in David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow or Elyot Chase in Private Lives – or in fact anything by Noël Coward. “Clooney’s suave sex appeal and raised-eyebrow wit make him the ideal Coward hero. Plus he looks great in a tuxedo. The British accent might be a problem, though,” it teased affectionately.
