INSIDE MICHAE: JACKSON’S NEVERLAND MANSION
By IsabellaThese pictures show how tragic Michael Jackson’s Neverland mansion has transformed from a magical fantasy land to a ghost town.
The 2,800-acre sprawling estate, with its zoo, famous amusement park, roller coasters and fairground rides, used to be alive with the sound of young voices.
But these images – taken just days before the singer’s death at the age of 50 – show how his former home is now completely empty.
The singer once filled the jam-packed rooms with bizarre artifacts, life sized mannequins and toy figures of comic superhero characters.
Now the rooms, which nearly all feature old fashioned dark wood décor and furnishings, all remain empty after removal men recently cleared the property.
The star’s former hot tub stands alone in a room while a private room built into a wall now has three secure locks forbidding entry into it.
An insider who viewed the property said: “It used to be like a children’s wonderland but now it’s like an empty shell.
“It couldn’t be more different from how Neverland used to look when Jackson lived there. It is eerie.
“All the toys and strange items that he had acquired over the years are all now in storage.
“It’s like walking through a ghost town. You used to be able heard all the noises from the exotic animals he kept in his private zoo.
“Now there’s just silence and empty fields.”
Builders and workmen have been working around the clock on the sprawling estate to repair it and restore some of its former glory.
And now it seems like the property is being readied for a new family to move into it.
Jackson deserted the property in July 2005 soon after being cleared of child abuse charges.
The ranch, which cost £11.4million in 1987, was also once famous for its zoo, stocked with elephants, giraffes, lions and monkeys.
All that is now left of the exotic animals is their empty cages.
The other animals have been turned over to the care of animal parks and welfare groups in California.
Jackson’s pet monkey – Bubbles – is now in a sanctuary while Baba the elephant went to a private owner and the horses were given to a children’s riding programme.
Neverland Valley Ranch, buried deep in California wine country, was once the ultimate symbol of pop star excess.
