Rove comedian Peter Helliar has apologised to hepatitis sufferers for making light of the disease with a joke branded “cheap and cruel”. Hepatitis Australia said it was offended by an on-air witticism in which Helliar joked about giving hepatitis C to Pamela Anderson for her 40th birthday. Recently Hollywood comedian Robin Williams too got involved in a contorversy after making some comments that offened Catholics. Hepatitis Australia chief executive Helen Tyrrell said the “irresponsible” comment was a cruel and discriminatory attempt at humour. Comedy is meant for light humor but nothing should be trageted at religion or people to create humor. Acting provides them their livelyhood but it’s the audeience which sits up and admires them and if they are hurt it means it’s not comedy. Comedians should take a more subtule approach towards sensitive issues before making a comment.
