Indian star ‘allowed to buy land’

The ‘laws of the land’ in India really baffle people at times, it at times or rather more often driven by political views rather than by – what is allowed and what is not. In many cases such instances go unnoticed and are never talked about. Only when a high profile person lays his hands on a piece of property that catches the eye of the government, it becomes celebrity news. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has insisted that he is a farmer by birth and therefore legally entitled to buy land in the state of Maharashtra. Mr Khan wants to avoid the same fate as fellow Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, who is facing possible fraud charges for allegedly buying land illegally. Indian law stipulates that only farmers are allowed to own agricultural land. In court papers Mr. Khan said he came from an agricultural family and felt strong ties to the land. Aamir is one of the few Bollywood actors that have work ethics and really read the script of the movie rather than doing roles for big banner movies without any scope of portraying a character.
